Newport Pagnell Town put aside the disappointment of losing in the FA Vase to beat Desborough in a thrilling penalty shoot-out.

Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Hillingdon Borough saw Darren Lynch’s men crash out of the Vase. After falling 2-0 behind, Lee Jones and Derek Brown levelled things up for the Swans.

But after Steve Brookes was shown his second yellow card, Hillingdon scored in the final minute to put them through into the next round.

Newport made up for the disappointment though with a brilliant win over Desborough in the League Cup.

Brown scored his third goal in as many games to put Newport ahead before being pegged back by the visitors just before half time.

But with neither side able to break the deadlock, even after extra time, the game headed to spot kicks.

It was advantage Desborough when the Swans missed their opening two penalties to find themselves 2-0 down.

But the visitors sensationally missed their remaining three, while Darren Lynch, Scott Mulkern and Lukasz Filipak dispatched theirs to secure the win and go into the hat for the next round.

In UCL Division 1, Olney lost 2-1 at home to Lutterworth Athletic.
