Fundraising boost for field of dreams
Olney look to expand at Doff's Field
Olney Rugby Club have announced a huge fundraising campaign to complete their dream and purchase their newly acquired playing area at Doff's Field.
The club, now in their 132nd year, needs 80,000 to complete the purchase of the agricultural land to the back of the existing clubhouse and turn it into first class playing facilities by August this year.
As part of their fundraising plans, the club has developed the 'buy a square' project where people can buy a piece of 'turf' on Doff's Field.
Already 200 out of the 1,000 squares have been purchased and everyone buying a square has had their name inscribed on a huge fundraising board in the clubhouse to acknowledge their donation.
The new facilities will support the activity of over 400 mini and juniors players, four senior squads and a ladies' team, and will consist of two full size pitches with a designated area for junior rugby.
Other ideas to raise money include a quiz night, New Year's Eve party and a Valentine's night disco while the ladies have organised a sponsored cycle ride to Rugby.
Rugby events including the hugely popular Olney Rugby Sevens tournament in July and there are plans for an eight-hour rugby match in which up to 1,000 players are expected to participate.
Those buying a square of turf for 25 will receive a certificate and their name inscribed on the big fundraising plaque.
People can donate via standing orders or can even con-tribute with a loan to the club.
