Gleeson to be fourth Dons summer recruit

Wolves midfielder looks set to complete switch

Wolves midfielder Stephen Gleeson looks set to become Roberto Di Matteo's fourth new signing of the summer.

The Republic of Ireland man will move for a nominal fee after his successful loan spell at Dons last season, with the deal expected to go through within the next 48-hours.

The 20-year-old impressed fans and Di Matteo alike with his all-action performances and slick passing before picking up an injury during the penultimate game of the campaign against Walsall that ruled him out of the League One play-offs.

And after Wolves' promotion to the Premier League, he has now been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Mick McCarthy.

He has proven himself to be more than adept at League One level though following other eye-catching loan spells with Hereford and Stockport.

He would be Dons' fourth summer signing as Di Matteo sets about re-building his side for next season and would join Jabo Ibehre, Dan Woodards and David McCracken as the club's newest recruits.

Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic look to have cooled any interest they had in Dons skipper Dean Lewington.

Manager Phil Parkinson was thought to have looked at the 25-year-old full-back, although it is understood that no official approach was made from the south Londonders.

But Charlton have snapped up defender Miguel Llera after he left the Dons last month. The Citizen revealed last Thursday that the Spaniard was in talks with the club and he has now signed a two-year deal.

The Citizen also broke news last week that Aaron Wilbraham was a target of Huddersfield.

Terriers manager Lee Clark is thought to be in the market for a new striker and Wilbraham could fit the bill. Athlough, as is the situation with Lewington, no official enquiries have yet been forthcoming.

Clark was quoted as saying about the Dons striker: "He is on our radar like a number of other players and we have had him watched."

The Dons squad return for pre-season training this week and fly to Portugal for a 10-day training camp on Thursday and return on July 12.

The opening warm-up game before the new season is on Saturday July 18 when the Dons visit Windsor and Eton.
