Two Milton Keynes gymnasts have been crowned best in the country after winning the British Gymnastics Trampolining Regional Finals.
MK Gymnastics’ Jacob Taylor, 12 and 11-year-old Jenna Torrie were victorious in the tournament in Exeter on Saturday, winning the Level 5 (11-12).
Nine-year-old Natalie Cooper’s excellent performances placed her second in the women’s Level 3 (age 9-10). After a fabulous first routine, Isaac Taylor (11) was on course to win when a slip in his second routine meant he was eventually placed sixth. A fifth finalist, Callum Hiett (9), was too unwell to compete. The children were part of the southern region team, placed third overall.
Coach Paul Wolfe said: “I am immensely proud of all five of them and the hard work they have put in.
“To reach the finals means all of them are amongst the very best in the country.
“Winning was all the more remarkable as we don’t have competition trampolines to train on. At National level the trampolines have more closely knit beds to allow the competitors to gain the extra height needed to complete more complex moves.
“We now need to raise the money to buy Olympic-standard equipment.
“Unfortunately top class equipment comes with a top class price tag with new trampolines costing £6,700 each.”
