THE MK Hurricanes ice hockey team have been celebrating the first piece of silverware in the club’s history after winning the Swindon Recfest tournament.

The championship came down to the last group game against the Nationwide Knights, in which only a win would secure the city side the title on goal difference.

The final match was an exact repeat of last year’s game between the two sides when the Knights only needed a point to seal the cup.

That year they held on for a 0-0 draw to win the tournament, however this year it was the Hurricanes’ turn for glory and Stephen Murphy bagged a single goal to put ‘the Canes’ in front, and they just about managed to hang on for the win.

When the buzzer went the relief from the players was there for all to see as they celebrated a fantastic achievement and a great year.
