MK LIGHTNING’S Planet Ice home has reopened to the public today, two weeks after damage to the refrigeration plant and cooling tower caused the ice to melt.
The rink closed on July 31 to allow for vital repair work to be carried out, including the laying of a new ice pad ahead of the new English Premier League season.
Lightning are due to play a pre-season friendly against Telford Tigers at Planet Ice on Saturday, September 8 ahead of their annual Ashes home match against Peterborough Phantoms a week later. Their first EPL home game then follows on September 22.
Planet Ice managing director John Neville said in a statement: “We are pleased to announce that the rink will reopen, and it will be business as usual from Wednesday at 10am.
“We would like to thank everyone for their co-operation in getting the rink back up and running in record time.”
Meanwhile Lightning have announced that letting agent Jackson Pyne has extended its tenure as the team’s primary sponsor for the 2012/13 season.
The move means Nick Poole’s men will bid for silverware with Jackson Pyne’s distinctive logo in a prime location on the front of their home, away and warm-up shirts.
The club will also welcome a new sponsor this season in the form of motor servicing and repair garage MK Diagnostics Ltd, in addition to successfully retaining almost every key partner from last season.
The long list of businesses who will continue to see their logo feature on the team’s kit in return for partnership services include prestigious, nationally-recognised brands Planet Ice, David Lloyd Health & Fitness, Campanile and Northgate Vehicle Hire, as well as local businesses Body Limits, Motive 9 website design, Red 19 ice hockey equipment, B2Promo Design, and Hobgoblin Music.
The brand new designs for next season’s shirts will be unveiled at the club’s annual ‘Meet the Players’ evening for supporters at the Campanile hotel in Fenny Stratford on Monday, Septemebr 3.
Supporters will also have the opportunity to quiz not only the club’s management team but also the entire playing roster, including new signings Adam Calder, Nick Chinn, Daniel Harris, Stephen Wall and Chris Wiggins.
