NEXT Wednesday sees MK Lightning supporters offered their yearly opportunity to come face-to-face with the team they normally only see from behind the glass at Planet Ice,

This season’s ‘meet the players’ evening takes place at Hotel Campanile in Fenny Stratford, starting at 7.30pm and as well as meeting the players, Lightning fans will get to quiz the club management and see the new kits for the first time.

It’s hoped that almost the entire roster for the 2011-12 season will be in attendance, including new Slovakian hot-shot signing Juraj Gracik and defenceman Tom Norton, signed this summer from Nottingham Panthers.

Club management, including player-coach Nick Poole, will take questions in an open forum, and also give their open and honest views on Lightning’s prospects for the season ahead.

The eagerly-awaited designs for the team’s home, away and warm up shirts will be also revealed on Wednesday, as will the identities of this season’s key sponsor and chosen charity for the season – plus details of a fund-raising event in Milton Keynes which two intrepid members of the Lightning squad will take part in, to kick-start the club’s fund-raising!

“This is a great chance for supporters to get a little bit closer to the guys they cheer on the ice every week”, said Vito Rausa, Lightning’s general manager.

“We know the new shirt designs are always eagerly anticipated so it’ll be great to reveal our colours for the year, and in the Q+A session we hope to give supporters an insight into our hopes for the new campaign and answer any burning queries that anyone has.”

The open evening comes three days before the start of the new season with Lightning hosting Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday night (7pm start) in their traditional ‘Ashes’ clash before the return leg in Cambridgeshire the following night.
