Three Milton Keynes ice hockey players have been selected for the England Women’s team to travel to Finland later this summer.
Samantha Burger, Alex Barrow and Rachael Clough all impressed during two matches for the England South team against their North counterparts recently as the national team coaches picked their squad for the trip in August.
The South actually lost both matches, but the trio – who all play for the MK Falcons Ladies team – still did enough to make the final cut, predominately made up of North players.
Provided they can all raise the £625 needed to fund the trip, the ladies – including goalie Alex – will be looking to make their full England debuts on the six-day trip to Finland, where they will play the home team four times.
That would complete a great year for the three, who all played a part in helping the Falcons to secure a third season in the English Women’s Premier League, finishing two points above bottom side Swindon Topcats with three wins from 16 games.
With Planet Ice closing for around 12 months from later this month, the Falcons still don’t know where they will play their home games next season. However, they insist they will work something out in time for the new season which starts in September.
