Defensive pair added to Lightning's line-up

Christie returns as Farn is added

Milton Keynes Lightning have taken a major step towards completing their defensive line-up for next season with the addition of promising young Swindon player Michael Farn and the re-signing of Lewis Christie.

The recruitment of the pair was revealed to members of Lightning's supporters club at their annual meeting on Thursday and brings the number of blueliners to four – Lukas Zatopek and Leigh Jamieson having already signed.

Player coach Nick Poole is again turning his attentions to Sweden to fill the spare import forward spot left by the departure of Joakim Wiklander.

He said has been tracking a player who has played for Sweden's U20 team as well as an Elite League target.

However he stressed he was not going to rush into making a signing to ensure that the player was right for the team.

Of 20-year-old Farn who has iced for Swindon Wildcats for the past two seasons Poole said: "Having played against Mike for two seasons now I am pleased to have him playing for us."

Christie, 19, joined Lightning at the start of last season from Belfast Giants and grew in confidence and ability as the season wore on.

Poole said: "As soon as the season ended Lewis was a priority to sign. He went from strength to strength last season and more than exceeded my expectations."

Lightning chairman Harry Howton said the English Premier League will almost certainly comprise 10 teams next year – with Wightlink Raiders and Telford Tigers being replaced by Manchester Phoenix and Basingstoke Bison.

He said the campaign will start with pre-season games on September 12 and 13 – possibly the Ashes against Peterborough although this was not definite. The league will start the following weekend.

Team manager said Lightning had broken even last season, due in no small part to the hard work of the supporters club which had done a fantastic job in raising more than 28,000 for the club.

Members agreed to maintain club fees at 8 per adult per year with a 2.50 charge for children.
