I'm optimistic for future despite final disappointment

View from the bench

Good day and welcome to the season ending edition of View From The Bench.

With our final game of the 2008/09 season over we have just the end of season awards on Friday and my testimonial game on Saturday.

This past season saw Lightning achieve two of our stated three

ambitions – top three in league, reach the Coventry finals and win silverware.

We only failed narrowly in the final task as we lost 5-4 to Peterborough Phantoms on Sunday in the play-off final.

It was a very disappointing end to what has been an enjoyable and rewarding season. A year in which many of our younger players have thrived and delivered their best seasons to date.

This gives us great hope for better days ahead as we will hope to retain the core nucleus of what is already a very good group.

In what has been a tough season economically for all sports teams we have been one of the few teams to maintain our fanbase.

It was very gratifying in Coventry this past weekend when the Milton Keynes contingent was by far the largest and loudest of the teams represented.

It has been a pleasure playing in front of such loyal and supportive fans this past year and we look forward to lacing up the skates again for you in September.

Finally I would like to thank all those that have been involved with MKL over the past 12 months – including our sponsors to all those that help to make the games possible.

Our supporters, both the casual and the army of fans that follow us up and down the country. Hopefully we will see you at the rink one last time this Saturday – face-off 6.30pm.
