Lightning are kings on the road

LIGHTNING’S recent impressive away form continued on Thursday night when they won 2-1 at Swindon Wildcats.

The city side took maximum points in the rearranged English Premier League game thanks to goals from player coach Nick Poole – once again forced to pull on his skates due to injuries – and Leigh Jamieson.

Swindon pulled a goal back, but it wasn’t enough to deny Lightning a second away win in four days, and fourth on the spin outside of Milton Keynes, as they consolidated fourth place in the table – now just a point off third placed Manchester Phoenix.

Lightning’s scheduled trip to Swindon in January was postponed due to hazardous travelling conditions, and after Thursday’s victory, chairman Vito Rausa Tweeted: “Nice to win on the road, nice to get two points, nice to get back home safely, and nice to be closing in on third place.”

With a top three place now in their sights, Lightning will be determined to address their stuttering home form when league leaders Guildford Flames visit on Saturday night, before they go in search of a fifth successive away victory at basement boys Telftord Tigers on Sunday.
