Poole delighted with Blaz from the past

Nick Poole has paid tribute to popular forward Blaz Emersic after he committed his future to the club for a third season.

Emersic joined Lightning in January 2011 and cemented a place in the affections of the supporters almost immediately, bagging 39 points from just 28 games.

In both of the last two seasons he has been the club’s top-scoring non-British trained player in the team roster, proving himself to be equally as effective a playmaker as a goal scorer.

And in the season just ended, Emersic was one of the top 10 goal scoring import players in the entire English Premier League, with the fifth highest number of assists.

“He is one of the first names on the team sheet each matchday – and the fact that his is the first signing we can announce gives an indication of how strong a team we want to put together for next year,” said Poole.

“I’ve said the phrase before that he’s like a Rolls Royce as his form is so consistent – and that is still true.

“Blaz is a leader in our room with his professional approach to the game, and is a great role model for younger players.

“When I talk to the lads in the off season, the first question they always ask me is if Blaz is coming back – and that just shows how highly-regarded and respected he is by his peers.”

The man himself said: “I’m delighted to be back for another season. We had a roller coaster season this year and didn’t manage to win a trophy – but that will only make us stronger.

“Our fans have been terrific all year and seeing them in Coventry just makes us all more motivated to win a trophy next season.”
