Ince hits out at Toshack for 'lack of respect'

Dons boss left angry over Easter selection

Paul Ince has accused Wales boss John Toshack of having a lack of respect for MK Dons after star striker Jermaine Easter was an unused substitute in their friendly victory against Scotland at the weekend.

Top scorer Easter didn't even get on the pitch in the 3-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, leaving Ince fuming that he was without his leading marksman.

The Dons boss, who was also without midfielder Stephen Gleeson through international duty for last Saturday's 5-1 defeat away at Charlton, said Easter would probably have been better staying at home with Dons.

"I am disappointed with John Toshack as Jermaine didn't even get on and that is an insult and a lack of respect. Not just to myself but to MK Dons as a football club," he fumed.

"It was a meaningless friendly. I can understand if he comes on for the last 20 minutes and gets a bit more international experience.

"But knowing that we have a massive game and that he has scored 10 in 14 for us, to still not even play him – for me it is a lack of respect.

"I am not pleased about it all but at the end of the day I can't stop him from going away to play for his country."

The current ruling regarding international call-ups states a club must have three players away with their country to have a game called off.

Dons fell just short with two, including Gleeson being on Republic of Ireland U21 duty, and Ince has also called for a change in the rules.

"I think there has got to be a situation where if clubs in the Championship are not playing then teams in League One should get a break too.

"It's harsh as the rule is three players and everyone else is getting a rest, so there is no reason why they can't cancel the whole programme.

"They cancel all the games in the Championship and Premier League so I can't understand why they don't do it for us.

"I'll speak to the League Managers Association about it as it needs looking at.

"Missing players like Jamma who goes to Wales and doesn't even play is a lack of respect to Dons and I'm disgusted with the whole thing."
