Ironman Geoff pushing himself to the limit

Aldridge to compete in elite competition

Geoff Aldridge is taking on a mammoth task this Sunday as he prepares to complete an 'Ironman' challenge.

The long distance triathlon event takes place in Frankfurt and consists of a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle, and 42.2km run – a full 26-mile marathon.

He hopes to complete the race in about 12 hours.

During his preparations for the trip to Germany, Geoff has been pushing himself to the limit and he recently cycled 113 miles and then ran 7.5 miles.

The following day he cycled 25 miles and ran 21.5. During the last month his average weekly time training has been 17 hours.

And last week was his biggest training week to date when he completed over 22 hours.

Geoff, who currently works at the Open University, fits the training in around his job. He also teaches karate twice a week at his own club, the Bletchley Dragons, at the Coronation Hall, Bletchley.

The club is a part of the Contact Karate Association and the 34-year-old has been a student of chief instructor, sensei Dev Barrett since 1987.

Geoff's main motivation to complete the Ironman event is to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

This is in memory of two people, his auntie Christine and uncle Dennis, who both bravely fought against the disease, but who sadly lost their battles.

With them both in mind and heart, Geoff will be swimming, cycling and running the Ironman in their memory.
