Johnson offered an olive branch!

Dons give Jemal a chance to stay at club

MK Dons have offered out of favour winger Jemal Johnson a new two-year deal to remain at stadium:mk – despite him not playing a part in the latter stages of the Dons' promotion push.

The American looked to be on his way out of the club having barely featured in the first team during the last couple of months of the season.

And when negotiations over a new deal stalled earlier this year, a number of Championship clubs made clear their interest in the 24-year-old.

But the Citizen believes that Johnson remains in manager Roberto Di Matteo's plans and will be given a new two year deal which he is poised to sign.

"I see myself here next year," Johnson told the Citizen. "I've said that from the beginning to everyone and I'm sure that after the play-offs things will finally be sorted out."

With his future now looking clearer, Johnson is hoping for a return to action when Dons face Scunthorpe in the second leg of their League One play-off semi final on Friday night.

"I'm feeling fresh and excited about the prospect of a Wembley final," he said.

"I've been working hard in training and I'm 100 per cent fit. I'm just hoping the manager will be able to squeeze me into the squad."

But that's something Johnson has failed to do recently. He did get some game time at Hereford a couple of weeks ago and looked sharp, but prior to that the last time he featured in a Dons shirt was the loss at Leeds way back on March 28.

And the midfielder has blamed that on a few niggling injuries and illnesses, and has backed himself to once again come up with the goods if called upon in the play-off showdown.

"I'll admit fitness-wise I wasn't 100 per cent and I was feeling a little tired," he said.

"But I've now had time to get my levels back to where they need to be and I will be looking for a memorable goal to take us through, that's for sure!

"I've played at Championship level before for both Wolves and Leeds, so I know how exciting it is in that league and believe we would do well up there.

"I've got the fans to thank for their votes on goal of the season, that gave me a huge confidence boost. Hopefully I can give them another one on Friday."
