Lions relying on a Plymouth raid
Only a win on the final day will do
An unlikely 99-87 win over Scottish Rocks has given Marshall Milton Keynes Lions hope of qualifying for the British Basketball League play-offs.
The Easter weekend had got off to a terrible start when Everton Tigers left Bletchley Leisure Centre with a 96-73 victory on Good Friday, meaning the trip to Glasgow on Easter Monday became a match Lions simply had to win.
And coach Vince Macaulay's team certainly rose to the occasion as Jayson Obazuaye's 30 points guided Lions to two vital Championship points which means the battle for eighth place could go down to the final day of the regular season on Sunday.
Lions will go into the weekend outside the play-off positions in ninth place and needing to win their final game of the season in Plymouth on Saturday to stand any chance of taking eighth spot.
But they are dependent on other results going their way too with Scottish Rocks, Cheshire Jets and Sheffield Sharks all having two games to play.
Jets and Sharks play their penultimate games of the season on Friday night when they face Everton and Rocks respectively.
Lions then play on Saturday and the final games on Sunday see Sheffield at the Worcester Wolves, Rocks at home to Everton and Jets entertaining Worthing.
But coach Macaulay is just hoping his team can win in Devon.
"We've been studying the table and fixtures for a few weeks now and we knew it would probably come down to this," he said.
"Nothing else matters if we can not beat Raiders but if we do then I'm confident one of the others will slip up.
"Cheshire have the edge over us but we're putting all our eggs in the Rocks basket. I can't see them getting a result."
