Luck continues to evade boxer Adam
But Holland-Ross delivers a knockout blow
Despite another strong performance in the ring, victory continued to evade unlucky Milton Keynes Victors boxer Adam Boniface when he went up against Cheshunt fighter J Bailey.
Boniface displayed some excellent bobbing and rolling techniques and carried out some cracking work to Bailey's body during the opening rounds.
And at the end of the bout it would be fair to say the verdict could have swayed either way, but the judges opted in favour of the local Cheshunt boxer.
Victors coach Tony Wright said: "I really feel for Adam. He improves with every contest but just doesn't seem to get the breaks. Credit for the work he puts in seems to get lost.
"Although this wasn't a particularly bad decision, I thought he had done enough to win and so did the Cheshunt coaches.
"But Adam possesses tremendous strength of character and doesn't let these things get to him."
Meanwhile club mate Anthony Holland-Ross made a terrific debut when he faced S Dawson, also from Cheshunt.
Starting the fight strong the Victors man delivered a standing count within seconds of the first bell and there was no let up when Holland-Ross went for the finishing blow, stopping his opponent after just one minute of the contest.
>> Bletchley-based Victors held their annual awards ceremony and paid tribute to some new and familiar members of the Leon School-based boxing club.
Honours went to John Lamb, Robert Brunt, Kane Griffiths, Connor Wright, Terry O'Reilly, Terence Freshwater, Ben Fitzgerald, Steve Parsons, Jamie Chapman, Boniface and Holland-Ross.
Special praise and the Jim Marshall Award went to non-boxer Toni Lea Wright for her exceptional fund raising efforts made on behalf of the club in the last year.
She managed to secure a substantial grant from the Youth Bank, and also organised a sponsored run by the boxers and coach Rick Wood.
They each ran 10 laps around Leon School, which raised over 500
towards the planned building of a new gym for the club.
An early night was needed for three of the club's juniors as they were preparing for the Home Counties Championships the next morning.
Malachi Joyce and Terry O'Reilly produced superb efforts as they both won championship honours, while club-mate Sam Fitzgerald put in a good boxing debut but failed to gain a victory on the day.
