Morgan desperate to avoid successive drops

CRAIG Morgan is so desperate to avoid his second straight relegation that he has turned to the Vengaboys in a bid to keep dressing room spirits high!

The 20-year-old centre-half knows a thing or two about relegation after enduring the drop to League Two with Wrexham last season.

And Morgan believes the Vengaboys' spine-chilling teeny-pop chart hit Boom Boom Boom Boom could provide the inspiration his team-mates need to escape the dreaded drop this season.

The Wales Under 21 international contributed the song to a mix-tape of the players' favourite hits compiled by striker Aaron Wilbraham, which blared out of the dressing room before the Dons' shock 2-1 win at Oldham last Saturday.

Morgan, who joined the Dons for just under 100,000 in the summer, told the Citizen: "I experienced relegation with Wrexham last season after they were docked 10 points and it's not a nice thing at all – there were a lot of glum faces all round.

"So anything we can do to help us stay up this season is great and, to be fair, the spirit of the lads here is brilliant.

"I took a lot of stick for choosing the Vengaboys but I don't mind because it raises spirits in the dressing room. I don't think the boys even listened to it – they skipped it!

"But we're all pulling together and we're confident we can get the results we need this weekend against Swindon and Hartlepool – it's our biggest weekend of the season."

Morgan was dropped after Milton Keynes' 2-1 win over Southend last month as the rock-bottom Dons slipped to three straight defeats without him.

But the 6ft defender has come back into the starting line-up for the last couple of games and looks to have cemented his place in the side with a terrific showing in the Dons' win at Boundary Park on Saturday.

Morgan said: "I was disappointed to be dropped, like anyone would be, but you've just got to work a bit harder and fight for your place back.

"I'm back in the side but the only way I will keep my place is if I keep performing well, and it's the same for all the lads because we've got quite a bit of competition now."

Morgan and David Partridge have been selected for the provisional 25-man full Wales squad for this summer's tour of Spain.
