A Ryan Beswick-inspired Milton Keynes Dons Under 16s signed off for the year with a spectacular 4-3 victory away to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Beswick netted three times with Sam Baldock also on target as Paul Mortimer's side finally found their scoring boots to earn the sort of result their form in recent weeks has deserved.
"I'm delighted for the boys," said Mortimer. "For all their efforts, sometimes you can get discouraged if you are playing well and not winning and maybe that was happening, but this result gives them that bit of belief again."
The Dons raced into a 3-1 half-time lead and although the home team enjoyed a storming ten-minute period after the interval, Milton Keynes held out and actually increased their lead.
Spurs reacted in a frenetic final ten minutes and netted two late goals, but it was not enough to deny Milton Keynes their second victory of the season.
"We made them look average," continued Mortimer, "and could have scored more goals. It was a fantastic way to finish the year and we don't actually want the break to come now, because when we come back in a few weeks time we'll have to start all over again. But that can be their next challenge."
Milton Keynes return to action on Saturday, January 8, when Birmingham City are the visitors.
