MK finish bottom of NBL

Milton Keynes Badminton’s slim chances of reaching the National Badminton League play-offs were extinguished on Monday night when they went down 4-1 to Loughborough.

Knowing they’d need a huge result against one of the strongest teams in the competition, MK got off to a dream start thanks to a superb mixed doubles victory from Sean Vendy and Jess Pugh.

But Loughborough Sport rallied brilliantly to deny the hosts another point on the night, cementing their last four place while keeping ahead of Birmingham Lions on the night, captain Peter Briggs and Greg Mairs edging a 3-2 win in the final match of the evening.

The result means MK finish bottom of the inaugural NBL with two wins from their five fixtures, amounting eight points, just two behind Birmingham Lions, and five behind Loughborough in the final play-off spot.
