The Thai rookie, who lives in Milton Keynes, stormed to his third win of the season for ART Grand Prix, taking with it the overall series lead by three points from team-mate Charles Leclerc.

After coming seventh in the opening race of the weekend, Albon started second on the grid for Race 2.

Getting the jump at the start, Albon led into Turn 1 and after a safety car period to clear a first lap crash, Albon began to open a lead to the chasing field.

Albon took the chequered flag 3.3 seconds clear, and in taking the fastest lap, also added two bonus points to his haul, taking the championship lead ahead of this weekend’s German Grand Prix.
