Karting ace Joe Turney has been awarded a place on the prestigious MSA Academy AASE driver programme designed to support and develop the UK’s most promising drivers.

Having achieved highly in his GCSE’s in the summer, Turney has commenced the three-year programme with a view to continuing his career in motorsport once completed.

The prestigious programme sees Turney enrol as a student at Loughborough College, the MSA’s chosen programme partner. He will study a range of disciplines, including driving skills, physical conditioning and performance, nutrition, health and safety and a range of media-related activities and will also benefit from 1:1 Coaching and Performance Management from qualified MSA Academy Coaches.

At the end of the programme he will have achieved a series of qualifications equivalent to three A Levels which are all related to his development as a driver.

Turney said: “This programme is designed to fit around my racing schedule and to provide invaluable support in developing my skills to help me achieve at the highest possible level. I am honoured to be identified as a driver with potential and to have been awarded a place on this course.”

The driver programme features structured traditional learning methods adapted for motorsport including sports science, personal fitness, business, motor vehicle as well as driver performance.

Turney took the British and a European Championship title in junior karting in 2016 and made the massive leap at just 15 years old into senior karting in 2017. His season was limited due to GCSE focus and a lay off due to surgery following a crash but remarkably, based on his results, he is ranked No2 senior driver in the UK by the MSA taking the MSA Vice British Champion title at the weekend. He will receive his award and trophy at the Autosport show in January will attend the after show function.
