Sebastian Vettel posted the sixth fastest time in the second free practice session at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on Friday.
The world champion completed 39 laps of the circuit near Spielberg, setting a fastest time of 1:10.807 - 1.265s slower than Lewis Hamilton’s quickest time of the session.
Team-mate Daniel Ricciardo did 36 laps, and set a fastest time of 1:10.920 which was good enough for eighth fastest.
“This morning we struggled a little bit too much, this afternoon I think was better,” Vettel said. “I think we’re seeing people are struggling to get the primes, the harder tyre, to work, it should be a different story tomorrow when it is hotter. We made some progress in the afternoon.
“We are not the favourites going into this weekend, we’d love to be but we’re not there yet. If anything the fact that it is our home Grand Prix is an extra motivation for the team.”
