William Tregurtha produced his best-ever performance to finish an excellent 15th out of 34 of the country’s top young karters.
The Shenley Brook End racer races in the Super One British Championship - one of the top karting series in the country.
William, aged just 13, is one of the very youngest in the 75mph Junior Max class for drivers up to the age of 17 but he certainly did not look out of place Larkhall, near Glasgow.
He had travelled to Scotland the previous weekend with his Milton Keynes-based team KR-Sport and had completed a successful test in preparation for the event.
Shenley Brook End School had given him time off for that initial trip and the gruelling travelling was certainly worthwhile as he made his way back up to Glasgow for the second time with a good knowledge of the tight, twisty track.
In the main televised final on Sunday afternoon William stormed through the field from 24th to finish 15th with lap times comparable with the top drivers at the front.
William, an Associate Driver for Cranfield University’s Motorsport Programme, was delighted with the result but is now determined to improve even further for the final round at the super-fast Shenington circuit.
He said: “It was a good result but now I want to push for a place in the top 10 at Shenington. KR-Sport gave me great support all weekend and the kart felt good in wet or dry conditions.
“It’s very encouraging for the rest of this season - and next year as well.”
