No premier loans as Dons settle for what they've got
Transfer window passes without activity
If Dons are going to challenge for promotion this season then it looks like they are going to do it without the Premier League loan stars Karl Robinson was hoping for.
The boss had hinted earlier this summer that he was talking to top flight clubs in the hope of bringing in a top youngster to potentially make the difference, but no further movement was made ahead of Tuesday night's transfer window closing.
Robinson has admitted that a tight budget has restricted his activity, relying on free transfers to strengthen the squad.
Defender Pele was released from his contract after a short spell with the club as defensive cover while Mathias Doumbe sat out through suspension, and new signing Gary MacKenzie regained match fitness following his transfer from Dundee.
Meanwhile Jemal Johnson's unexpected return to the squad has added to Robinson's midfield options after an unsuccessful trial at DC United and Kansas City Wizards in America before returning to Milton Keynes, with one year left on his contract.
Of Johnson's return, Robinson said: "Jemal has said to me that he wants to play for this club. I don't ever want to look back and think I should have given him a chance."
The loan window is now closed until next week, although the 28 squad players - including those involved in the academy - look set to lead the line for the foreseeable future as Dons look to get out of League One at the third time of asking.
