North Crawley eye a winning double

Wolverton KO Cup final

North Crawley are aiming to lift the Citizen-backed Wolverton KO Cup for a second successive year when they face Milton Keynes City in Monday's final.

North Crawley have a proud tradition in the knockout competition having played in four finals but they lost out to Milton Keynes in 2000, missing out to MK Azad in 2002 and then suffering defeat against Azad again in 2004.

However, 2007 saw them gain revenge over an Azad side who were making their eighth final appearance in nine years and who were aiming to win the trophy for a fourth successive year. Azad indeed had won the trophy six times in seven years.

The thrilling final last year saw North Crawley emerge victorious by five wickets although the victory was only achieved on the final delivery of the day thanks to two leg byes.

North Crawley this year overcame Afro Caribbean in the quarter-finals, Afro Caribbean totalling 115-8 and North Crawley replying with 116-1 to complete a comprehensive nine-wicket win.

They then met Wolverton Town 2nds in the first of the semi-finals, Wolverton restricted to 112-7 with North Crawley hitting 113-2 to win by eight wickets and so book their passage through.

Milton Keynes City are making a long-awaited appearance in the final.

They beat New City by 10 runs in their quarter-final and then faced up to New Bradwell in the semi-final, Bradwell scoring 128-5 and City replying with 129-6 to win by four wickets and so book their place in the final.

Monday's final on Wolverton Town's Osborne Street ground starts at 1pm and will again be decided over two innings each of 15 eight-ball overs with the captain losing the toss at the start of the final being given the choice of batting or bowling first in the second innings.

No player is allowed to bowl more than four overs in each innings.

The umpires for Monday's show-down are Gordon Mason and Pete Skinner.
