Bowls kids march on in national cup

FOUR Bletchley Indoor Bowls Club juniors competed in the Buckinghamshire round of the English Indoor Bowls Association’s U18s Singles competition held at the Foxhill Indoor Club in Aylesbury on Saturday.

The tournament, which is divided into two groups, U18s and U15s, is run in each county across the country, using exactly the same format.

It involves a number of games played over seven ends, and then undergoing a series of skills tests devised nationally by the Bowls Youth Development Scheme.

Far from being overawed, Bletchley’s juniors all bowled well, with 15-year-old Nathan Nimmo doing enough over both disciplines to reach the final and beat his rival from Buckingham to win the senior title.

Harry Axelson, 14, Bletchley’s U16 Club Singles champion, also performed well to win a place in the U15s section final where he was narrowly beaten by a Foxhill rival.

Daniel Harris, 14, and Jarrad McLeod, 10, were competing in this annual event for the first time, and despite a good effort, were not good enough on this occasion.

Finalists and semi-finalists automatically go through to the next regional stage to be held in Cheltenham in April, with Harry and Nathan (pictured above) set to fly the flag for Bletchley.

>> Bletchley Indoor Bowls Club had a game against Woburn Sands on Saturday and used the occasion to present a cheque for £700.00 to MacIntyre Homes.
