Going out on a Lim for success at Nationals

ALYSSA Lim insists the time for talking is over as the Milton Keynes badminton ace puts her new partnership with Marcus Ellis to the test at the England National Championships.

Despite reaching the semi-final of the women’s doubles alongside Jess Fletcher last year, Lim’s mixed doubles assault was one to forget after she and James Lauder exited in round two in Manchester.

But this year’s competition looks set to be different as the 22-year-old is now partnered with Ellis in the mixed. Hopes for the duo are high as they begin their charge towards the Rio 2016 Olympics with the England Nationals starting on February 1.

It will be the first real test of their new partnership, and Lim is adamant she and Ellis are looking to hit the ground running, starting with their assault in Manchester.

“The Nationals is one we obviously want to do well in – I think everyone does because it’s such a big event,” she said.

“Marcus and I want to see where we can go – we’ll need to be starting to get competitive at competitions and that will be where we need to start performing.

“The Nationals will be a good starting point to see where we can put ourselves in terms of the national rankings and then we can go on from there and see how well we can do in the world rankings.

“Jess and I reached the semi-final twice before. I’ve not done so well in the mixed, so hopefully I can change that this year.

“Being in a new partnership with Marcus is exciting and I’m hopeful that we can do well together, starting at the Nationals.”

While Lim’s rivals might not know what to expect from her new partnership with Ellis, they do know they are in for a fight with the Milton Keynes-based player and Fletcher returning to do battle once again.

And having reached the semi-final last time out, Lim is intent on going all the way this year.

She added: “Myself and Jessica seem to enjoy the Nationals, having reached the semi-final twice, but we would obviously like to improve on that.

“Getting that close makes you want to go one better and I certainly think Jess and I can do that, especially considering we are now training together on a weekly basis.”
