Immortal gym show proves a major hit

ALMOST 300 mixed martial arts fans turned out at Woughton Leisure Centre for a city club’s first major competition on Saturday.

The Immortal MMA club has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months, and even made history by putting on the first International Sport Kickboxing Association European title bout for juniors in the UK.

That belt was won by seven-year-old Riley Smith who beat a lad from Cyprus who was a year older than him.

That was one of several contests on the day, with the home club’s fighters claiming many of the top honours up for grabs.

Tony Wilson won the ISKA Southern Area title belt after a majority decision, Bee Duncan-Kolcak was a unanimous decision winner of the Girls English title, and Bradley Marshall achieved a second round total knockout to win a Southern Area title.

Russell Godwin was victorious with a unanimous decision to claim an English title belt, while Gedis Lekutis achieved a total knockout in the fourth round to win his non-title fight.

Lee McArthur lost with a stoppage in the second round, but gave a good fight, and Jordan Duncan-Kolcak lost his bout on a majority decision.

Those belt winners owe a lot to club coach Raymond Leigh who has turned them into title-winning champions in the space of just nine months, with the help of MMA champion Fraser Opie – a coach with the club – and Darren Ward, who formed the gym, based in Bradwell Abbey, in September last year.

The sold out show earned excellent reviews from visiting clubs and fighters, and for Immortal their attention turns to the Rising Champions event in March.
