Sports clubs receive funding to improve playing facilities

TWO Milton Keynes sports clubs will soon be playing in improved facilities thanks to Olympic legacy funding from Sport England.

Bletchley RFC and North Crawley CC have both benefited from Sport England’s ‘Inspired Facilities Fund’ which will allow them to improve their playing conditions as part of the legacy of the London 2012 Games.

For North Crawley, champions of the Four Counties Cricket League Division One for the last two seasons, almost £28,000 worth of funding will mean the village club can build a new netting facility, which will be used by players of all ages.

And for Bletchley, the highest-ranked rugby club in the local area, the award of £50,000 will mean that changing rooms facilities at Manor Fields will be upgraded and refurbished, to the benefit of juniors, seniors and ladies’ sides.

Bletchley chairman Chris Goodman said the funding will give the South West 1 East League club a significant boost as they look to attract the best players available, as well as provide quality rugby at a local level.

“We’re delighted to have secured this investment which means we can proceed with our ambitious development plans to continue to invest and provide the best possible facilities for our players,” he said.

“This will mean that rugby players from as young as six-years-old, to the women’s, seniors and veterans teams, can continue to enjoy the sport in a safe environment, while promoting the best standards of an amateur rugby club, and all that it has to offer the local community.”

Sport England has announced that more than 1,000 local sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities, which is part of the £150 million Places People Play legacy programme.

Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the Games.
