Strong weekend for city kart trio

YOUNG Milton Keynes kart racers Matt Fretwell, William Tregurtha and Joe Turney were all on good form in a high-quality meeting at Shenington last weekend.

Fretwell, 14, is still in with a chance of winning the 70mph MiniMax club championship after a battling second place in his final. Leader Fretwell needs another strong performance in the last meeting of the year at Shenington in less than two weeks time.

Tregurtha, aged just 12, joined him on the podium in third after a battling drive from near the back of the 16-kart field. Tregurtha, who competes in the Super One British Championships, saw his chances damaged after a mechanical problem ended his first heat when lying in second place.

A fifth-place finish in heat two at least moved him slightly up the grid for the final and a series of excellent overtaking moves propelled him into the spot just behind Fretwell by the chequered flag.

Turney, 11, in the 55mph cadet class, looked on form throughout the meeting. He grabbed a heat win and secured a strong fourth place in a very competitive final.
