William holds his own in Continental Cup final

SHENLEY Brook End karter William Tregurtha produced a blistering performance at the prestigious Continental Cup meeting at the PF International track last weekend.

Tregurtha, 12, faced a grid of more than 40 of the country’s top drivers in his 75mph Minimax class. It was only his second meeting at the track near Grantham and heavy rain made the conditions treacherous.

But after a good day’s testing on Saturday with his IPK team, the Shenley Brook End School pupil was near the top of the timesheets and feeling confident.

And with good reason. In his first heat he finished third and then stormed to an extraordinary eighth place in heat two after being drawn to start from the very back of the huge grid.

The final was held on a soaking wet track. With just one lap to go William was lying in seventh and pushing for the top five, but he was forced wide halfway through the final circuit and lost three places to finish in a still highly-creditable 10th.
