Young city gymnasts make the grade in style

TWELVE girls from the Kingston Milton Keynes Gymnastics Club did their city proud last weekend as they took part in a Southern Region qualifying competition in Basingstoke.

All of the girls passed their grades, but for two of them the competition was particularly memorable as Ellie Botterill and Gypsy Squires booked their places in the forthcoming British Championships.

The pair have represented the Southern Regional team for the last 12 months and will make up half the region’s side to take on the country’s best in May.

Charlotte Anderson-Priddie also performed well to earn a place in the regional team for future competitions.

Starring on vault and range and conditioning respectively, Gypsy and Ellie were the club’s star performers as 10 of the 12 girls passed their grades with distinction.

The two girls have impressed so much that top 10 finishes in the Championships could see them earn places on the World Class Start programme for the best young British gymnasts.

That would be just rewards for the incredible commitment and effort they show, training for 28 hours over six days a week.

The Kingston club is earning a reputation for producing top gymnasts, and three more of their star performers – Paris Johns and Charlotte and Ellie Smithson – will be flying off to Austria this month to compete on the European stage.
