Peters manager out for revenge

South Midlands and United Counties round-up

New Bradwell boss Steve Tucker has fanned the flames of his side's game with local rivals Cranfield on Saturday by saying he's desperate for revenge.

Peters lost 2-1 away to their near neighbours in December – a defeat that angered Tucker, who guided his side to five wins from six going into the game.

And after subsequently slipping out of contention at the top of the SML Division One table, he says it would mean a lot to get some pay back against the side struggling at the wrong end.

"We know we're a better football side than they are but we have got to go out and prove it," he said.

"It was a tough defeat to take at that time but they caught us on an off day and I want revenge."

Scoring goals hasn't been much of a problem for Peters so far this season who sit seventh in the pile, but just six points off top spot.

But 33 conceded in 22 outings is what is holding them back from a serious title challenge.

Although Tucker thinks his two new defenders could help plug the leak.

He said: "We've signed Massimo Lagioia – a 30-year-old Italian with lots of experience – and re-signed Danny O'Farrell who was with us last season.

"We often let ourselves down at the back but I'm hoping a good mix of youth and old heads in the side will change that."

>> Meanwhile Newport Pagnell boss Terry Shrieves admitted this season hasn't gone the way he had hoped, but said he'll be using their remaining league fixtures to keep his side on their toes.

The Swans are in the semi-finals of the UCL League Cup and Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy. And his side must remain in top shape for the final push said Shrieves.

He said: "They know that if they want to play in the cup they've got to keep performing week in, week out – and we've got a lot of games still to play. Tuesday night's trip to Stotfold was called off so it's going to be a busy few weeks."
