Record numbers go in city's running festival

Paul Bond leads large MKAC squad home

The Milton Keynes Festival of Running attracted almost 4000 runners and the main race of the day, the half-marathon, produced a finishing field of 3243 - an increase of over 200 on 2009.

The new start in the city centre made for a smooth run along the grid roads for the first three miles.

Up front there was a race long battle between two men and it was only in the closing stages that Neil Addison (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) got the better of Anuradha Cooray from the Vale of Aylesbury. Addison won in 68m 54s, 10 seconds ahead of his rival.

There were 55 Milton Keynes Athletics Club runners in the race and Paul Bond led them home in 7th place with a new personal best of 73.35.

There were also PBs from the next three - Steve Herring, 15th in 76.16, Marcus Whelband, 22nd in 78.19. and Daniel Webber, 31st in 80.14.
