Robbo full of praise for his 'natural goal-scorer'
Easter marks his return with winner at Brighton
Karl Robinson praised Dons match winner Jermaine Easter, purring that the striker "has got an unbelievable knack of being in the right place at the right time."
The 27-year-old scored the only goal of the game at Brighton to end Dons' two-game losing streak. And the Dons assistant manager said that Easter has got a true striker's instinct.
"He didn't do much, but the ball drops to him and he scores a goal," Robinson said.
"It is a knack, whether it is at this level or in the Premier League he has got an unbelievable knack of being in the right place at the right time and scoring goals.
"That's why he is a top player at this level and it's so important to us that he plays most weeks because he is a threat.
"Even in the first half when he is running the channels, automatically the back four drop off 10-yards and that gives us some extra space to play in."
It was the Welsh international's eighth goal of the campaign at the Withdean, and after missing the last month with a thigh strain, he showed why he is so valuable to the side. But Easter said he was just happy to contribute.
"It was a very frustrating game as there wasn't much in the way of chances for me and it was looking like it was going to be a stalemate.
"But then the ball fell to me in the penalty box and luckily I was in the right place at the right time.
"They are the sort of goals that add at the end of the season when you're trying to get your target and I will take them all day long."
The game was changed by the red card to Brighton's Adam El-Abd, but while Robinson said he didn't get a good enough view of his challenge on Richard Partridge to make a full comment, Easter was perfectly well placed and sighted. And he said the right back deserved his punishment.
"It was a terrible tackle," he said.
"Richie has seen it coming and avoided it slightly. But I think if he doesn't see it and he plants his leg, he's in hospital."
While it was Easter who took the plaudits for the winner, the man at the other end of the pitch deserved praise for some fine saves too. And that is what keeper Willy Gueret got from Robinson.
"We may have switched off at times but Wlly came through for us and made some outstanding saves like we know we can do."
Attention now turns to tonight's (Tuesday) Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round clash with Southend United at stadium:mk.
New loan signing Aaron Doran is eligible to play after the midfielder completed a switch from Blackburn, and Robinson has pledged Dons will play a strong team.
"We want to win and whether that means making changes or keeping the same personnel we will have to wait and see.
"But the side we put out is going to be the one we believe will win us the game."
