Rugby club shocked by death of player

Dave Eales dies after Milton Keynes game

Milton Keynes Rugby Club has been shocked by the death of Dave Eales, who died after the club's 3rds' game against Bletchley at Manor Fields on Saturday.

The 50-year-old from Nash collapsed after the game and despite the best efforts of club staff and paramedics, the father of four was pronounced dead at Milton Keynes hospital an hour later.

He died of a suspected heart attack.

President of Milton Keynes Rugby Club, John Silk said: "I knew Dave very well. He had played for the club since he was 15 and will be greatly missed.

"Lots of people turned up at the club on Saturday evening to pay their respects. He was a popular member of the team.

"I'd like to thank everyone at Bletchley for their help."

Officials from both Milton Keynes and Bletchley attended to Mr Eales before an ambulance arrived.

A Bletchley spokesman said this week: "We extend our condolences to Dave's family and Milton Keynes Rugby Club at the sad loss of a long term and committed member of that club."

And Milton Keynes president John Silk added: "David was a former first team captain and club captain. Playing at hooker, he was rated as one of the best in the county.

"In later years he continued to play for the lower sides and played veterans' rugby."

Mr Eales, who ran a signmaking company, leaves a son and three daughters.

Earlier in the afternoon Mr Eales' son Luke had been treated at Milton Keynes hospital after suffering a shoulder injury in the same match.
