Former Milton Keynes Rugby Club star Ed Slater skippered England to victory in New Zealand on Tuesday.
The Leicester Tigers lock is part of the England squad while they play the All Blacks in a three-test series.
And on Tuesday, the second string, led out by Slater, conquered against a Crusaders side with noticeable absentees All Blacks captain Richie McCaw, and test rugby’s all time leading points scorer Dan Carter.
Slater was picked as captain by coach Stuart Lancaster, who said: “Ed is a natural leader who has captained Leicester well and I am sure he will do the same with this England side.”
Slater would prove to be a star throughout his debut, playing a key role in the pack, while also setting up a try for Alex Goode in the 38-7 win.
England’s Danny Cipriani paid tribute to his captain after the game for his performance.
He said: “Ed Slater led us fantastically tonight, he was an absolute beast out there.”
