Bletchley looking for a strong finish
South West Two East league
With just two games remaining Bletchley Rugby Club appear doomed to finish in the bottom two in the table.
Saturday saw them beaten 37-27 at Trowbridge and they trail Reading Abbey by four points as the season's finale approaches. Bletchley are safe in the knowledge there is no relegation this season and they will be hoping for a strong finish to the season.
Bletchley travelled to Trowbridge with just 15 players but they played with a freedom not seen for a while.
Trowbridge opened the scoring with a penalty and they soon added a try to extend their lead to 8-0. But Bletchley hit back when centre Jamie Parker chipped through and Adam Griffiths scored, Tim Stobbs converting.
Both sides continued to play some fine, attacking rugby, the hosts extending their lead to 22-7 with two tries, one converted.
Trowbridge took advantage of a quickly taken tap penalty to add their next try but with half time beckoning Bletchley reduced the gap to 29-12 when prop Tom Hannell popped up on the wing and cut inside to score.
Bletchley carried the fight to the hosts in the second half, flanker Paul Evans scoring the next try with Stobbs' conversion cutting the deficit to 29-19.
Trowbridge then kicked a penalty before Bletchley captain Kevin Turnbull scored a great try.
But some strong running saw the home side's full back come into the line and surge through a missed tackle to score an unconverted try.
Parker then dropped a sweet goal for Bletchley to pull back three points but although they finished beaten, this was a greatly improved performance.
>> Bletchley 2nds were 31-5 winners over Beaconsfield while Bletchley 3rds beat their Milton Keynes counterparts 32-24.
