City secure promotion with Chipping Norton win

Milton Keynes Rugby Club are celebrating promotion back into Southern Counties North after a comfortable 34-15 win over Chipping Norton.

After missing out on a bonus point last week, City knew they only needed a point to make sure this week, and sent a strong side to Oxfordshire to make sure.

With the game being the penultimate of the season, there was plenty of pressure on City. But before the kick off Chipping Norton, who are now likely to be relegated following a points deduction by the league, announced that they were unable to field a front row and so according to league rules, the match was given to MK as an away team walk over and five league points were awarded, seeing MK win promotion without kicking off.

That being said, all involved agreed to play the game with uncontested scrums from the start. In what turned out to be a well contested game City came away with the victory 34-14. First half scores for Dan Rolfe and Ben Fisher, were followed by second half scores from Scott Aspinall, Niall MacKenzie, Rolfe with his second and Frazer Cumming. Brian Purcell added two conversions.

Next weekend sees the final game of the season at Emerson Valley as MK take on Crowthorne. This match is preceded by MK Silver Foxes taking on Bletchley. The day will also be a big family day to celebrate the end of the season with bouncy castle and Zorbing.
