Olney made it four wins in a row on Saturday as they beat Dunlop 19-10 to progress into the next round of the Intermedia Cup.
Playing with the wind first half Olney spent long passages of play within the home teams territory with little to show for their efforts.
The pressure told and Olney were rewarded with a push over try from a 5 metre line out courtesy of Tom O’Connor. A conversion and two penalties gave Olney a slender 13-0 lead at half time.
In the second half conditions deteriorated further making running rugby near impossible. Olney pressed hard in the half and were rewarded with two penalties to take the score to 19-0.
As conditions worsened still, the wind advantage and sheer size of the home team left Olney on the back foot.
Some desperate defence keep the home team at bay for much of the second half. Even when reduced to 14 men, the team stuck together and made Dunlop work for every opening.
Relief was evident at the final whistle having secured a 19-10 victory in challenging circumstances.
The defensive effort from the players was exceptional as well as the efforts of a number of second team players who stepped up on the day to play a vital part in the win.
