Bletchley Ladies booked their spot in the next round of the Ladies Junior Cup after beating Worthing Ladies 13-10 at Manor Fields on Sunday.
Not only did the victory secure safe passage for Bletchley, but also a boost in confidence, given that Worthing sit one place above them in the league standings.
Bletchley put the first points on the board early on, when Rachael Taylor kicked them into a 3-0 lead with a penalty.
With the momentum, Bletchley continued to put pressure on the visitors, seeking out the first try of the afternoon.
And their pressure eventually told when Lauren Beamish picked up from the back of the scrum, passing out to Helen Bateman, who then off-loaded to new recruit Brooke Hudson who took it over in the corner for her first try, opening the lead to eight points - a gap they held until the break.
The start of the second half saw a very different Worthing team return to the pitch.
Pushing hard, despite strong defence from Bletchley, they slowly pushed their way forward.
After 10 minutes their efforts paid off, giving them their first try to reduce Bletchley’s lead to three.
Just five minutes later though, Bletchley’s Clare Stacey crossed over for second try of the game, extending the lead to 13-5.
Worthing scored another try with 15 minutes to go, making for a nervy finale for the home side, but they were able to hold on and secure a place in the next round.
