Olney back to winning ways with cup success
OLNEY enjoyed an extended break from Southern Counties North league action to beat Long Buckby 24-0 in the Muddiman Cup on Saturday.
Both sides turned out sides made up of first-team and back-up players, and Olney were first on the scorecard when Johan Botes slipped through the Buckby defence to score in the corner.
The conversion attempt was just wide of target, but Olney managed to extend their lead before the break, with Paddy Leahy the scorer of their second try, converted by Stuart Livesy for 12-0.
For the second half, Olney rang the changes with substitutes to ensure that those players prepared to endure the conditions got a good run out.
A pick up by Dylan Winter, who drove for the line, appeared to have produced a try. However, this was disallowed and instead Olney had to be content with a scrum.
Olney soon extended their lead with a third try from Ollie Simmons though, as he broke free to score before Livesy added the extras.
A convincing win was then secured with a fourth try from Dylan Winter to set Olney up nicely for the challenge of high-flying Reading Abbey on Saturday.
