Olney win promotion with impressive show

OLNEY have been promoted to South West Two following a convincing 43-0 victory over Beaconsfield.

With the pressure on Olney to win and secure their promotion it was no surprise that the game got off to a nervous start with both teams kicking for territory.

But Olney captain Dave Smith soon took advantage of an early penalty by kicking up field up for a line out, which was successfully won by the hosts and allowed Ian Bennett to score the first try of the game.

And Olney soon extended their lead as Scott Filler found Rhys Peakman who fought off the challenges and drove through the visiting back line and over for a ten point lead.

Seconds later Olney were straight back on the attack as Will Edwards ran strongly up field and passed to Duncan Taylor who looked likely to score until the referee had spotted a forward pass.

Therefore it was a Beaconsfield scrum five metres out and in front of the posts, and after a bit of confusion Jack Sutton proved to be alert and picked up the loose ball to score Olney's third try of the afternoon.

Dave Smith then converted and Olney had a comfortable 17-0 lead at half time.

The second half proved to be just as enjoyable for the home side as Rhys Peakman scored again from linking support play after Will Edwards had started another great run up field. And further tries from Ollie Brackenbury, Jack Sutton and Taylor soon followed.

Dave Smith also added two conversions as Olney ran out easy winners.

The score seemed to just reflect Olney's season as they once again showed some defensive bite and their ability to push forward in numbers and score some great tries when it mattered.
