Bletchley Ladies faced their toughest challenge of the season but maintained their unbeaten record with a 15-10 win over Old Newtonians Ladies.
Now six games into the season, Bletchley are already seven points clear of Five Ways in the Women’s NC Midlands 1.
They got off to a solid start against Old Newts too, kicking themselves 3-0 ahead after just five minutes.
Both sides struggled against the difficult conditions, with kicking proving tough with the high winds.
But the home side fought back 10 minutes before half time to take the lead, squeezing into the corner to go 5-3 up.
It appeared as though they’d hold on to the lead until the break, but Bletchley scored their first try to snatch it before the whistle.
The ball went through several phases, finding its way to Jennie Davies who set up a maul. The ball passed out from the back to Caroline Collie, then on to Youell, who took it over the line for her maiden try.
Rachael Taylor kicked Bletchley into a 10-5 half time advantage.
Old Newts wasted no time in equalising though, scoring a try early in the second half to level things at 10-10.
Within minutes, Bletchley took the ball down the other end of the pitch, to regain their lead with a try from Collie, off Emma Taylor.
With the wind getting up, Rachael Taylor was unable to put the ball between the posts as they went 15-10 up.
Despite Old Newts’ best efforts, they couldn’t break down Bletchley’s resolve, as they held on to win.
