LLOYD Dyer scored a sensational first-half winner as in-form MK Dons bagged their fourth straight victory to climb to the top of the League Two table.
Dyer smashed his second goal of the season into the top corner from 25 yards to see off Morecambe in the 21st minute, as the water-tight Dons extended their impressive defensive record to four successive clean sheets at Christie Park.
Milton Keynes started brightly and Aaron Wilbraham should have put them ahead in the seventh minute but he headed Danny Swailes' knock-back wide from seven yards, from Keith Andrews' deep free-kick.
The hosts battled back and Michael Twiss twice almost took advantage of some uncharacteristically sloppy Dons' defending when first he slid in to kick the ball out of MK goalkeeper Willy Gueret's grasp and just wide of the post, before he fired straight at Gueret from 12 yards in the 11th minute.
But Dyer put the Dons 1-0 up with a thunderous long range drive in the 21st minute.
Skipper Andrews passed a short free-kick inside to Dyer, who took a touch before unleashing an unstoppable left-foot drive into the top corner from 25 yards.
At the other end, Carl Baker flashed a fierce 16-yard strike just wide from Garry Thompson's cut-back, who caused Dons' full-back Dean Lewington all sorts of problems in the first half.
The impressive Alan Navarro almost doubled the Dons' lead in the 37th minute when he curled an effort inches wide from 25 yards in the 37th minute.
But Twiss should have equalised for Morecambe four minutes before the break when he raced clean through onto Baker's chip but lobbed the ball over the bar when one-on-one with Gueret.
Chances were few and far between after the break as the Dons tightened up defensively but the superb Dyer fired wide from 15 yards after cutting in from the left and skinning two men on the hour mark.
Jude Stirling thought he'd made it 2-0 to the Dons eight minutes from the end but his close range tap-in was ruled offside after Dyer's shot had been parried by Morecambe keeper Joe Lewis.
The hosts threw everything at MK in the dying minutes but David Artell's header was superbly headed off the line by Dons defender Swailes before substitute Jon Newby's 15-yard drive fizzed just wide three minutes from the end.
