Video: Winkelman speaks of his delight

Dons chairman on the appointment of Robert Di Matteo

MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman couldn't hide his delight after announcing Roberto Di Matteo as the club's successor to Paul Ince.

With the squad already back in pre-season training, the club's new first team staff of Di Matteo, assistant manager Eddie Newton and fitness coach Ade Mafe will have their work cut out to be ready for the start of the new season, but that doesn't worry the chairman.

"Roberto is a leader, a high achiever, and will get the best out of people," he said.

And Winkelman has no worries about appointing a manager with little experience.

"There are always some risks when you appoint someone to do a job in football, but we no longer see Roberto as the top player that he was, we see him as a successful manager."

"There's no doubt that it was his reputation that got him through the door, but it was what we saw of him inside the door that got him the job."
