The women were out in force with two coxed 4s competing in the morning and one in the afternoon Masters event; all coxed by club captain, Chris Wilson. The IM1 crew of Heidi Towse, Lou Rivett, Jayne Skeith and Cath Keeling had a really solid row down the 3,000m course in 12mins 18secs, coming third.

Rod Bennett and Steve Lawson nobly agreed to race their pair in the morning so that the mixed 4 could compete in the Masters event in the afternoon. They clocked up a time that would have beaten a number of the Masters crews.

The Women’s Masters D 4 of Heidi Towse, Karen Wilson, Paula Heywood and Suzanne de Maine finish first in their category.

Cherry Kemp, rowing sweep for the first time, and Clare Lawson teemed up with Rod Bennett and Steve Lawson in a 4-.

Liz Fryer and Roger Bidgood resumed their seats in a double, but needed to go somewhat further than in their last event of 500m.

Both mixed crews were not at all deterred by racing against men’s crews and were really proud of their achievements.
