Chaos has descended on Stoke Goldington for the second month in a row as flash floods engulfed parts of the village.

Residents from 10 homes took refuge in the village hall after water levels rose to dangerous levels around mid-afternoon yesterday (Monday).

The flood water comes from two brooks that meet just west of the High Street and flow under it in a culvert.

In Weston Underwood, a man and a woman were rescued after a nine-foot bulge appeared in their garden and then ruptured.

In a separate incident, firefighters used a rescue boat to rescue two people trapped in a car stuck in flood water in Tathall End.

Firefighters from Olney, Newport Pagnell, Great Holm, Broughton, Aylesbury and Marlow rushed to the scenes.

Thirty firefighters used two rescue boats, two off-road vehicles and three fire engines to tackle the flooding.

The British Red Cross Fire & Emergency Support Service vehicle assisted victims.
