Steam's up at Stoke Goldington

YOU will hear the sounds and smell the smoke this weekend, when the 31st annual Stoke Goldington Steam Rally and Country Fayre gets under way.
On Saturday and Sunday, the usually quiet green land will be trampled under thousands of feet, all making the pilgrimage to one of the new city's (and yep, we know that Stoke isn't strictly in Milton Keynes) biggest, best and longest running events.
But then, that success is no accident – organisers have earned it by offering such a huge array of entertainment for all.
Train enthusiasts will be in choo-choo heaven at this bash with a plentiful amount of full-size and model steam engines on parade, alongside vintage tractors, working stationary engines, vintage cars and bikes, classic cars and military and commercial vehicles.
The kiddies might not see the appeal in those, but we would bet our last Haribo sweeties that they will warmly receive Punch and Judy, kiddies' shows, the roving entertainers and bouncy castles... that's not to mention the bungee trampolines, face-painting and circus skills workshop.
Animal fans wont go without either – with gun dog and ferret racing shows, heavy horse rides, sheep shearing, the chance to say to-wit to-woo to owls on parade, and even take a donkey ride, if you fancy.
Demonstrations will be plentiful too, with steam engine rides, working demos, rural crafts and ploughing – of the horse, tractor and steam varieties.
Live music is on the cards, and daredevil stunts will make you gape.
Take a deep breath, for there is still more to be had: a huge selection of market and trade stalls, handicrafts and speciality foods, and refreshments will be on offer... from a tea tent to a real ale bar, to a food court and yummy ice creams... and did we mention The Citizen is onboard for the action?
The Steam Rally will open between 10am and 5pm both days (last admission at 4pm) and costs £6 for adults, £4 for students and OAPs. Accompanied kiddies go free.
There is free car parking at West Side Farm, Stoke Goldington. For your fun-filled journey through time, follow the signs from Stoke Goldington village centre to the free parking area.
Now, is it too much to ask for the weather to be nice and toasty? Here's hoping...
